The 20th Annual African-American Heritage Festival will be held from 10 am until 6 am Saturday and Sunday, September 18 and 19. The annual event will be held in the John Moxley Parking lot in Gypsy Hill Park, just off Thornrose Avenue.
The festival includes live music and
entertainment, a variety of foods and crafts from local and regional
artisans. All events are free and fully handicapped accessible.
Vendors, participants and attendees are located under tents. The
schedule will be posted here as soon as it is final.
The festival will feature an extensive variety of ethnic foods and a remarkable array of quality arts & crafts.
The African American Festival is the largest event of its kind in Western Virginia and is hosted by a non-profit, volunteer group. It is also sponsored by the Staunton Recreation & Parks Department and the Staunton City Tourism Department.
Saturday's events begin at 10:30 AM featuring childrens amusement rides; L'Tayna Mari, a Jazz Vocalist from Northern Virginia performing a selection from her new CD A Teardrop of Sun; and long time local favorite Joe Pettus and the Soul Shakers from Staunton. Events end at 6 pm.
Sunday's events include Old Fashioned Informal Church Service at 10 AM under the tents, an afternoon of gospel music featuring local and out-of-town musicians and gospel choirs; Liturgical Dance; and an American Dress Fashion show. The days events end at 6 pm.
Excellent ethnic and American food, finest quality arts & crafts, free entertainment, fun and fellowship for the entire family will be available both days.
