Utilities - Water, Sewer, Refuse

Utility Payment can be paid by cash, check or money order. (For information on paying taxes, tickets and fees, click here.) For payment using credit cards or online, see below.  Checks and money orders should be made payable to the City of Staunton.

Payments may be made...

  • By mail.  Mail to :

  • In person at the Utility Desk at the back of the first floor lobby in City Hall, 116 W. Beverley St.
  • By dropping in in the City’s green 24-hour drop box located on Central Avenue under the clock tower.  Payments must be check or money order only.
  • By dropping in the drop box located inside of City Hall in front of the Treasurer’s office during hours when City Hall is open.

Paying by credit or debit card...

The City of Staunton does not accept direct payment by credit or debit card.  However, if you wish to pay with a card, you can use a phone or online payment service to make that payment.  There is a convenience fee added by the service when using the phone method.  No fees are charged for online payments.

By phone... Call 1-888-2PAY-TAX (1-888-272-9829) - you will be charged a convenience fee by the service provider for this payment method. Click here for payment instructions and information about this payment service.

Paying online...

It is recommended to disable any pop-up blockers prior to making any online payments. Pop-up blockers will not prevent the processing of payments. However, pop-up blockers may prevent the final confirmation page which opens in a separate window from occurring.

Online payment of personal property taxes requires a "web user account" to be created. Once the "web user account" has been created, you will be able to link personal property account(s) to this newly created "web user account". *NOTE: if you are unable to view your linked accounts, please log off and then log back on to the "web user account".
