The Staunton Talking Book Center provides a free public library service with easy access to the informational and recreational reading materials needed by individuals in the service area who are unable to read standard print material. The center is a sub-regional library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NLS).

NLS has partnered with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) in support of its U.S. Currency Reader Program, which will provide currency reader devices, free of charge, to eligible individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The program is part of the U.S. government's Meaningful Access Initiative to assist individuals who experience difficulties identifying U.S. currency.

If you are a blind or visually impaired patron of the Talking Book Center you can call the TBC at (540) 885-6215 or (800) 995-6215 to add your name to the Currency Reader request list. Devices will not be available until late fall 2014. The program will open to all residents and U.S. citizens living abroad who blind or visually impaired in January 2015.
