Citizen's Academy
16th Citizen's Police Academy to be held
March 6 2012-April 12 2101
The Staunton Police Department began a Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) program in October of 1994. Since that time, we have graduated more than one hundred citizens in fourteen sessions. The course is designed to give City residents a better understanding of the law enforcement profession in general, with specific emphasis on the operations of our Department.
The program provides participants with instruction in the areas of department organization, personnel issues, firearms training, operation of police vehicles, defensive tactics, patrol operations, crime prevention, investigations, constitutional law, animal control, communications, etc. Additionally, participants are required to serve a four hour work-a-long activity at the police department. This can include patrol, E-911 Center, Records, Criminal Investigations Unit, with School Resource Officers or any other unit at the Department.
To be eligible, participants must be (1) residents of the City of Staunton, (2) at least eighteen years of age, and (3) pass a background check.
Applications can be picked up at the department's Records office during normal business hours. If you need additional information, please call the Crime Prevention Unit at 540.332.3852.
