Staunton Police Department’s

Citizen’s Police Academy

Are you interested in learning more about Law Enforcement?  Are you curious about the “life behind the badge”?  If your answer is yes, then please join us for the 17th session of the Staunton Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy.  The Staunton Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy will give participants a behind the scenes look at what it is like being a police officer. 

While attending the Citizen’s Police Academy participants will gain insight on how to be a police officer, while experiencing similar conditions.  Participants will also gain knowledge in many topics such as criminal law, criminal investigation, and illegal drugs.  Participants will experience hands on training with firearms and emergency driving. All courses are taught by certified law enforcement and civilian instructors. 

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must pass a criminal history check.  Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights starting September 15, 2014 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.  There will also be two Saturday classes September 27, 2014 and October 4, 2014, both dates requiring approximately 4 hours of hands on training.  Participants will be required to complete a four hour ride along with any unit in the department.  The Academy class is limited to fifteen participants; applications can be at the following link: CPA Application or at the Staunton Police Department and are due by August 31, 2014.  If you have questions please Officer Jennifer Stevens at the Staunton Police Department at 540-332-3852.



 The Staunton Police Department is an internationally accredited, full-service law enforcement agency dedicated to serving the citizens of the City of Staunton, Virginia. The Department consists of fifty sworn officers and seventeen full-time civilian employees. In addition to providing twenty-four hour patrol coverage and criminal investigative functions, the Department is very active in community policing.

The Staunton Police Department sponsors Virginia Rules, mentorship/shadow, and School Resource Officer programs for the area's youth, a Citizen's Police Academy, Neighborhood and Business Watch programs, as well as a number of other crime prevention initiatives.

The Department operates the City's state-of-the-art Enhanced-911 Center. The E-911 Center, which serves as the primary answering point for the City's 9-1-1 calls, dispatches calls for service for police, fire, and the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad.
