Water Treatment Plant
Environmental Management

Staunton Public Works Water Treatment Plant's EMS has selected the following areas to reduce their carbon footprint:
· Reducing Energy used to operate all mechanical machinery and lighting at the facility.
· Reducing wastewater discharges created in the process of the water filtering processes backwashing, and cleaning operations.
· Reducing the need for chemical additives to purify water by closely monitoring amounts of aluminum sulfate, sodium hypochlorite and flourosilicic acid used. This will reduce the need of those chemicals used and reduce the amount of process waste sludge created.
· Reducing sludge production will lower the amount of industrial waste generated at the plant.
