The Recreation Department holds classes, events and programs here during the week and on some weekends.

$30 an hour - paid in full with contract

The City of Staunton is a major financial as well as in kind sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club at Booker T. Washington Community Center.  Believing in the Boys and Girls Club ability to provide for underprivileged children, the City of Staunton contributes $40,000 per year to operate the after-school program. The City also supplies the use of the entire south wing of the building, the gym and restrooms, utilities and all physical plant free of charge to house the Boys and Girls Club in Staunton.

All Girl Conference T-Shirt Design Contest

The Your Community Cares: All Girl Conference needs your help with designing our Conference t-shirt for the 2012 Conference.  Entries should be relevant to the 2012 Conference theme:
Celebrating Girls from Around the World
The All Girl Conference is an all-day event designed to help raise the self-esteem of teenage girls by connecting them with community resources.  The Conference includes free breakfast and lunch, workshops, keynote speakers, informational booths, lots of door prizes, and much more!

RULES
1- Contest is open to ALL middle and high school students.
2- Artwork must be a two-dimensional original creation on 8 ½ X 11 paper.  All art mediums are acceptable: paint, charcoal, water color, etc.
3- Print full name, age, school, phone number, and grade on the back of entry. Each contestant may submit only one entry. 
Contestants under the age of 18 must also have a parent signature on back of entry.
Contest begins on August 15, 2011.  Entries must be submitted in person or by mail to the address below on or before September 30, 2011.

Judges will select one grand prize winner.
Entries will be judged on
1) Relevance to Conference Theme: Celebrating Girls from Around the World and
2) Originality

PRIZE
1) Artwork from the winning entry will be published on the 2012 All Girl Conference t-shirts, programs, and other Conference materials.
2) Winner will receive a $50 Cash Prize and other goodies!

NOTIFICATION
Winner will be chosen and notified by phone by October 10th.
By entering the competition, you agree that your work is your own. All entries become property of sponsor. Artwork will not be returned. Entries from contestants under the age of 18 that do not have a parent’s signature will not be considered. By entering/signing, parents/participants agree to contest rules.

Booker T. Washington:

Mat Pack Wrestling
Mat Pack wrestling will begin its Fall session at 7pm, September 8 at Booker T. Washington Community Center. Registration will take place at that time for K-12th grade. This is an on-going club, sign-up and register anytime. Practices will be held at 6:15-8:15pm, Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays.

  • 1940s-1960 R&B Music Class- 3rd Tuesday of each Month @ 5:30pm-Learn the history of R&B music, listen to some of your favorite groups and artists from this period, and share your thoughts in this free class led by R & B Historian, Al Leichter.

    2nd & 4th Saturdays each month for ages 15-24 @11:30-2:30pm. Performance: All Girls Conference, April 17.
