Big Tree Registry

The purpose of Staunton's Big Tree Registry is to document the existence of the largest trees in Staunton, Virginia, and to forward measurements of local champions to the state and national big tree registries. Staunton has some winners!

BIG TREE NOMINATION

 

  1. Complete all the information on the nomination form. (Form is in Adobe PDF format.)
  2. Mail completed form to:

    Staunton, VA 24401-0058

  1. A volunteer will visit the property to confirm the tree’s identity and size.
  2. A brief letter will be sent to the nominator and/or property owner summarizing the tree’s identify and size. The letter will also list the current city, state, and national champions for that particular species. If the tree is of significant size to compete on the state or national level, the nomination will be forwarded onto the appropriate registries  for consideration.
  3. Every couple of years a volunteer will contact the property owner for permission to visit the tree to update the tree’s size and condition.
